From Goodreads:
He calls me his Queen of the Night. I’d die for him. I’d kill for him, too.
When MacKayla Lane receives a page torn from her dead sister’s journal, she is stunned by Alina’s desperate words. And now MacKayla knows that her sister’s killer is close. But evil is closer. And suddenly the sidhe-seer is on the hunt: For answers. For revenge. And for an ancient book of dark magic so evil that it corrupts anyone who touches it.
Mac’s quest for the Sinsar Dubh takes her into the mean, shapeshifting streets of Dublin, with a suspicious cop on her tail. Forced into a dangerous triangle of alliance with V’lane, a lethal Fae prince, and Jericho Barrons, a man of deadly secrets, Mac is soon locked in a battle for her body, mind, and soul.
My Review:
Holy frek. After reading the first book in this series, I really wasn’t expecting to get hooked. Faefever is the third book in this series and it is KILLING me to not read all of the spoilers for the next book (*cough cough* or series) This book totally shocked me by how good it is! Mac, Barrons, and V’lane are still searching for the Sinsar Dubh. But since no one has been entirely truthful and forthcoming with info for Mac, she decides to take matters into her own hands and launch a private search for the truth - about the book and those around her. Alliances are formed and betrayal is at every corner. And to top it off, someone is taunting Mac with pages from her sister’s diary. Which really just rubs salt in her open wound/grief.
There is still some obvious foreshadowing and a little too much inner dialogue for me, but even that’s improved. I really enjoyed this book. I finished it in about two days and I can’t get it out of my head. I am so proud of Mac’s character development and how she continues to grow and become her own kind of badass. She was a totally different character in the first book but the natural progression towards being a badass has taken root and form in the second and third. She was so used to relying on others but in this book, she’s decided to give that up and figure things out on her own. And I am here for it!
I have so many theories on who/what I think Barrons is. But no matter what he is, even though at times he is an ass, I’m #TeamBarrons. He subtly shows that he actually cares for Mac even when he doesn’t exactly mean too. Then I think he realizes that he’s letting his feelings show, so he tries to squash any reciprocation from Mac by being an ass the next time he’s around her. I have a feeling he does this for her (or perhaps his) protection more than anything. I have a feeling the closest we’ve come to figuring out a little bit of his story so far, has been the few snapshots that Dani got of the book that was in Rowena’s desk. That coupled with the showdown between him and V’lane where Barrons mentioned something about a Seelie princess. I feel like those have been small insights to who he is. Again, these are just my personal theories and since I’m only 3 books deep into this never ending series (11 books so far!), chances are I’ll change my mind several times.
Overall, I’m really enjoying this series and I’m looking forward to the next book!
