Crooked Kingdom is the second book in the duology following Six of Crows. Diving back into the world of Grisha, Crooked Kingdom picks up where Six of Crows left off. Kaz and his crew barely survived their mission at the Ice Court and have returned to Ketterdam bloodied, beaten, and with more enemies than ever before. Packed with never ending action and faced with endless tough choices, Kaz and his crew get backed into corners with seemingly no good outcomes. Living by one of his mottos, when you can’t beat the odds, change the game - Kaz and his deadly band of outcasts, tackle a plan so daring, it could turn Ketterdamn’s politics and way of life upside down.
WOW! I can’t get over how much happened in this book, there was never a dull moment. Kaz, Ineg, Jesper, Wylan, Nina, and Matthias all had such fantastic character development. They made my heart race with their daring and bold actions, laugh at their jokes and quirks, and cry at their heartache. Leigh Bardugo’s writing is so great! She has excellent flow and pace that immediately sucks you into the story and makes you lose track of time. I gave this book 5 stars because I absolutely loved everything about it and I know I’ll be thinking about these characters for a long time. I really like how Bardugo stayed authentically true to each character and didn’t short change anyone’s growth or try to speed it up in order to give a picture perfect ending. Each character is a complete badass in their own unique way and Bardugo upholds that all the way to the end. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes to read about imperfect badasses that do impossibly hard things and stand up to those that have done them (and others) wrong.
